“The skills that employers find most lacking tend to be soft skills. But they also complain about candidates’ lack of promptness and their inability to pass a drug test”.

The first can be addressed by designing/revamping the curriculum AND the learning experience based on the learning outcomes (competencies) needed for the profession. Much of the second takes motivation, which lies in the hand of both the professor (teaching/learning methods that address all learning styles AND provide authentic learning experiences) and the student and his/her view of the future (they need to understand WHY learning these competencies is  critical for their future – and nothing better to expose students to the outside world).
